APPETITE

Appetite is the story of a successful woman on the eve of her 39th birthday.

Ambushed by her own sense of disquiet - searching for fulfillment, craving meaning and reinvigoration - she invites her closest family and friends to dinner but, as the night progresses, when realising that her hunger for life, for lust, for sensation has disappeared, she is inspired to change.

The scene: a birthday party. The menu: 39 extravagant courses, one dish for every year of the birthday girl’s life. The result: a triumph for the ensemble cast of KAGE, writer Ross Mueller and director Kate Denborough… Director Kate Denborough has taken Mueller’s words and crafted a polished performance, effortlessly creating a world of shifting scenes and changing perspectives…The success of this piece is partly due to the effortless blending of text and movement as characters explore their mutual tensions through physicality – falling, twisting, even climbing atop one another in a way that feels perfectly natural…Appetite is an unmissable event in this year’s Melbourne International Arts Festival – part play, part dance, and completely satisfying.
